Frequently Asked Questions

Who is John Chilson and why is he qualified to teach this school?

In the past I taught marketing, business, customer service and more at over 50 seminars across the country. Now I'm using that teaching experience, plus my 19 years as a professional Santa Claus, to share with other Santas and Christmas Characters what I have learned. I want to help you become a great Santa and reach and exceed your goals.

Why should I attend the North Pole Santa School instead of one of the other schools?

I will be sharing details of what I have learned and telling stories of what works and what doesn't. None of the material is "broad overview" but the true nitty-gritty of becoming a great Santa Claus

Everyone will be seated so they can easily see everyone else in the class. This creates great class-wide discussions and sharing of experiences. Besides being the instructor, I am also the discussion leader and will keep us focused. You will learn a great deal, not only from me, from the other class members as well.

Because of this format, when the class is over, you will have made a number of new friends in the Santa community.

I'm on a special diet, what food will be available?

All breaks and lunches will include selections for vegetarians and diet drinks. Beyond that, you may want to bring a sack lunch and snacks with you.

If I need to cancel can I get my deposit back?

Normally not, as it is not a deposit but a non-refundable retainer to hold your place in the class. However, contact me if there are unusual circumstances and I'll see what I can do.

When do I pay the balance of the Registration Fee?

When your registration form is received, within several days you will be sent a PayPal invoice for the $50 non-refundable retainer. Once that is paid your space in the class is reserved.

About two weeks before the class begins you will receive another PayPal invoice for the balance of your registration fee. You may pay it online with a credit or debit card or pay when you arrive with a check or cash.

What should I bring to the school?

Bring a pad and pen to make notes and plenty of business cards to share with other students.

Most important: Bring an open heart and mind and a willingness to learn and share and explore and be prepared to enjoy the time spent with the rest of the class.

What should I wear?

Please wear "Santa Casual" which is comfortable for sitting most of the day and includes something red or Christmas-like. See the photo at the top of this page for how other students dressed.

Where can I stay overnight?

There are a number of motels and hotels in Longmont with prices ranging from around $80 to over $100 per night. I suggest you Google them and make your room reservation early. I DO NOT recommend the Lamplighter Motel.

Is there a good place nearby for breakfast?

Just inside the main entrance to the hospital there is a small cafe that opens at 6:30 AM. They serve good food that is very reasonably priced. They will cook your breakfast while you watch and they have a selection of fruits, drinks and other goodies. Coffee is free.
Bring your breakfast tray and join us in the classroom which is just around the corner.

I will be there by 8 AM.

Building friendships starts immediately and classes start at 9 AM
